You Can Help Change Lives

At Read for Literacy, we believe reading is a skill that needs to be practiced. To achieve this, we are asking your support to ensure our local children have reading materials in their homes. Through our partnerships with Toledo Public Schools, Connecting Kids to Meals and St. John’s Jesuit High School, we will provide books, activity sheets and online story times to children in our community.

Each and every year is critically important in our student’s literacy development and this year we need your support more than ever. Due to this ever-changing global health crisis, children in our community are at an even greater risk of falling behind academically.

With your donations this year, we hope to continue to increase literacy skills of people of all agres who turn to us for help. Learning the life-changing skills of literacy helps boost self-confidence for our students and adults leading to an improved quality of life.

Looking ahead to 2021, and with your continued financial support, we hope to:

• Distribute 7,000+ books with parent activity sheets building larger at-home libraries for children in our community
• Create and expand virtuals tory time videos for children in our CYR program
• Continue encouraging our adult students by expanding our efforts to recognize their successful completion of personal iteracy goals

Your support for Read for Literacy’s services and programs is essential in providing our community with greater opportunities through literacy. Together, we will cntinue to strengthen our community and help create brighter futures.

Volunteering

Volunteers allow Read for Literacy and Claire’s Day to provide quality programming year round in our community. Volunteer Opportunities

Adult & Family Literacy

(2-3 hours per week; training is 3 hours)

Creating Young Readers

(3-4 hours of training and orientation—background checks required)

• Creating Young Readers Pre-school Program
• Creating Young Readers-Elementary School Program

Literacy Outreach & Volunteers

(Training provided, in some cases, background check required)

Literacy Outreach is our opportunity to travel into the community and share our love of reading with others at health fairs, low-income housing developments and others places where children and families gather for recreation and to learn. We distributed more than 10,000 books and family activity sheets in our outreach work and look forward to expanding the program each year.

General Office Volunteer & Receptionist provides the opportunity to work in our office assisting staff with various special projects, entering data, answering phones.

Special Event Committee and Volunteers on Day of Events make it possible for Read for Literacy to raise funds and provide quality programs. Training is provided for event volunteers.
